Calpine Geothermal Visitor Center

Location: Middletown, California

Size: 1,500 Square Feet of Exhibits

Scope: Exhibit Planning and Design, Graphic Design

In 2011, Calpine Corporation hired Gyroscope to lead a design-build team for a major renovation of the exhibits at the Geysers, the largest geothermal power facility in the world.  Gyroscope’s exhibits combine interactive displays, multimedia, and artifacts to introduce visitors to the unique geology of the region, the technology required to generate sustainable geothermal power, and the cultural history of the region.   The centerpiece is an interactive terrain model.  Visitors use a control monitor adjacent to the model to explore real-time seismic data and power generation output, drill sites, important historic events, a map of the heat plume beneath the site, historic imagery, and a working drill rig in action.
