DRIVING OUR DREAMS

Design historian Hampton Wayt said that Driving Our Dreams was,  “The best car exhibit I have ever seen. It gave me the chills.”

'Driving Our Dreams’ was a temporary exhibit featuring a spectacular collection of sixteen historic concept cars, including a real flying car.  The goal was to present these cars as exemplars of automotive design and to engage visitors in the design process.  We transformed the Heritage Museum’s Car Barn into a plush 1950s Motorama auto show and outfitted it with interactive experiences related to automotive design. Visitors could further develop their design skills in an adjacent discovery room where they designed their own concept cars, built miniature vehicles using an assortment of loose parts and tested them for speed on a giant test track.  In a separate 10,000 SF gallery, we invited visitors to design and build a Sustainable City of the Future incorporating imaginative modes of transportation. Partial buildings were seeded by artist Kiel Johnson during a one week residency.  Over the six month installation, the Sustainable City grew, evolved, and engaged!
