12/14/06 - Gyroscope,
Inc. is pleased to announce the publication of "Museums in Transition: Emerging Technologies
as Tools for Free-Choice Learning," a report analyzing how museums
are utilizing new communication technologies to enhance and extend the
visitor experience.
Commissioned by the Science Museum of Virginia as part of the development
of its Visitor Experience Master Plan for a new facility in Northern
Virginia, "Museums in Transition" builds on an extensive literature
review and 24 interviews with museum professionals, individuals working
in the technology field, and technology researchers. These efforts
have provided us with a picture of how technology is changing the way
we gather information and interact with one another outside the museum
and how museums are responding to these trends. This report outlines
some of the many ways museums are adapting to changes in the culture
by using new communication technologies and highlights some innovative
projects seeking to transform the way visitors interact with the museum
and with one another.
The report is available on the Press and Publications page of the Gyroscope's
website, available here.
